For the first time Lebanon will be present in the Venice Biennale with its own national pavilion.
The Venice Biennale is regarded as one of the most important events in the contemporary art calendar.
It will give Lebanese artists an opportunity to exhibit their work to the elite of the contemporary art world as well as emphasize that world class artistic practices in Lebanon continue now more than ever.
The space for the Pavilion of Lebanon at the 52nd Venice Biennale is in a vaulted hall that was formerly known as the Birreria Dreher, a XIXth Century industrial site in Venice on Giudecca Island.
The island has become a place for alternative culture, particularly in the fields of theatre, dance and visual arts. It has been constantly hosting off site and alternative exhibitions during the Venice Biennale.
During the Biennial the official exhibition of artists from Wales (UK) will be held in another space located in the ex Birreria Dreher.
